Vernacular name: Kuzhinagappala, Nilappala

Habit: Herb

Habitat: Degraded forest areas and forest plantations, also in the plains

Distribution: Bangladesh, Myanmar, China, Sri Lanka

Flowering and Fruiting: November-April

Key identification features: Slender, erect, pubescent herbs; broadly oblong to elliptic-lanceolate leaves, serrulate margin. Cyathia in axillary clusters, minute involucre; capsules pubescent, minute red seeds.

Uses: The plant is used to treat respiratory ailments, cough, worm infestations in children, dysentery, digestive problems and tumours. The tender fruit as well as the flowers are edible
