Tribal name: Valiyakadaladi (Paniya)

Habitat: Abundant in plantation of the hills, Tropics, Wastelands, road sides and fallow lands from plains to 1400m.

Distribution: Tropics of the World

Tribal consumers: Paniya

Parts Used: Leaf (After Cooking)

Seasonal Availability: September-April

Key identification features: Erect or straggling herb up to 70 cm tall. Leaves simple, opposite-decussate in arrangement. Flowers yellowish-white, occurring in axillary or terminal spikes. Fruit an urticle, falling off with bracteoles and perianths, with a solitary seed. Flowering and fruiting occur throughout the year.
