Vernacular name: Chakramandarakam, Ponthakara, Thakara

Habit: Herb

Habitat: Moist deciduous forests, also in the plains

Distribution: India, Africa, Arabia, Pakistan, East wards to Polynesia

Flowering and Fruiting: August-December

Key identification features: An annual subshrub. Its leaves are pubescent below. The flowers are yellow, arranged in few-flowered axillary racemes. The plant produces linear, subtetragonous pods, which are indehiscent. Each pod contains 20-30 oblong, compressed seeds.

Uses: Young leaves are cooked and eaten. Used as liver tonic, mild laxative and heart tonic.They are also used for the treatment of skin diseases.
