Family: Moraceae

Habit: Small perennial herb or under-shrub with erect, often tufted stems containing milky latex.

Habitat: Found in moist, shaded places such as forest floors, rocky slopes, and tree bases.

Distribution: Native to southern India, especially the Western Ghats, and Sri Lanka.

Flowering and Fruiting: Produces unique, flat, disc-shaped inflorescences with both male and female flowers; fruits are small and crustaceous.

Key identification features: Leaves alternate, obovate to oblanceolate with toothed or wavy margins; distinct flattened, circular inflorescence resembling a small greenish disc.

Uses: Traditionally used in folk medicine for treating skin ailments, inflammation, and as a remedy for snake bites.
