Cyathula prostrata (L.) Blume

Vernacular name: Cherukadaladi, Chuvannakadaladi

Habit: Herb

Habitat: Moist deciduous and semi-evergreen forests, also in the plains

Distribution: Pantropical

Flowering and Fruiting: September-April

Key identification features: Decumbent herbs with opposite rhomboid leaves and terminal slender spikes. Flowers grouped in threes to fives, with one perfect and others neuter. Stamens united into a membranous cup, and staminodes fimbriate. 

Uses: Leafy vegetable. Aerial part decoction drunk as a treatment for cough. An infusion of the whole plant is taken as a remedy for fever and dysentery.
