Habitat: cultivated

Distribution: Indo-Malesia

Flowering & Fruiting: August - December

Key identification features: Large trees up to 35 m tall; bark dark grey. Leaves simple, alternating in a spiral pattern. Inflorescence axillary fascicles with white flowers. Fruit is a reddish-brown berry containing a single seed when ripe.

Tribal Consumers: Kurichiyan

UsesThe unripe fruits, the ripe fruits and flowers of Mimusops elengi along with other astringents are used to prepare a lotion for the sores and wounds.
