Habitat: Planted along hedges; frequently runs wild

Distribution: India, Sri Lanka, Malaccas, Malaysia, Philippines, China

Flowering and Fruiting: December-May

Key identification features: Shrub with dark purple branches, smooth and cylindrical. Leaves linear or oblong-lanceolate in shape. Spikes terminal; flowers white. Capsule glabrous.

 

Tribal Consumers: Kurichiyan, Adiyan

 

Uses: Justicia gendarussa is traditionally used for pain relief, fever, and inflammation, attributed to its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. It is also employed in treating respiratory issues and rheumatism.
